Jakarta - Kejadian Luar Biasa (KLB) rabies di Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) dikala ini masih berlangsung. Kabupaten Dompu kali pertama menetapkan KLB pada 30 Januari 2019, yang disusul Kabupaten Sumbawa pada 8 Februari 2019. Jumlah korban meninggal alasannya yaitu rabies pada insan (lyssa) telah mencapai 6 orang.

"Karena masa inkubasi rabies lama, masih ada kemungkinan perkara bertambah khususnya perkara usang yang tidak terlaporkan. Kasus gres dilaporkan dikala tanda klinis sudah muncul, yang kadang sudah terlambat treatment," kata Direktur Pencegahan dan Pengendalian Penyakit Tular Vektor dan Zoonotik Kementerian Kesehatan (Kemenkes) Siti Nadia Tarmizi pada detikHealth.

Jika layanan kesehatan terlalu jauh, langkah pertama sehabis digigit anjing yaitu membersihkan luka dengan sabun dan air mengalir. Setelah itu segera ke kemudahan kesehatan terdekat tanpa perlu menunda. Tenaga kesehatan akan membersihkan, merawat, dan memberi suntikan vaksin anti rabies (VaR) pada korban. VaR berfungsi sebagai obat yang wajib diberikan pada pasien yang digigit anjing.

"Dengan adanya KLB rabies, segera ke puskesmas atau kemudahan kesehatan lainnya dikala pertama kali digigit anjing," saran Siti.

Sebagai obat, VaR wajib diberikan pada korban tergigit anjing. Tanpa VaR, korban gigitan anjing yang terkena rabies kemungkinan besar akan meninggal. Risiko besar tewas inilah yang mengakibatkan sebaran rabies berstatus KLB. Hal serupa terjadi pada anjing yang terserang virus, sehingga tidak menyediakan pilihan selain eliminasi.

Siti Nadia mengatakan, KLB rabies perlu ditangani dengan kerjasama antara kesehatan insan dan hewan. Bidang kesehatan insan menangani korban rabies, sedangkan binatang berperan dalam pinjaman vaksin dan pengendalian anjing liar di lingkungan sekitar. Populasi anjing di Dompu dikala ini diperkirakan mencapai 10.334 ekor dengan setengahnya berstatus liar. Sementara pinjaman vaksin gres mencapai 3.927 ekor yang masih terus berlanjut.
